It was August 1997 when I remember roaming frantically around the city to pick up a CD of AR Rahman’s Vandemataram. It was an important activity I HAD to accomplish on a Sunday morning, when most stores were closed. I bought a copy by paying extra cash! And when I returned home and hit the play button,
I was blown.
I am still blown.
I think the album is one of the ‘must haves’. It reminded the urbane about the Indian national song. Rahman had conducted two versions of the original while his own track ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ became a sort of a cult track. I have never heard a track like Maa Tujhe Salaam and perhaps I never will.
One of the tracks in the album is Vandemataram itself. The redone version of the original, composed by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay. Rahman has with great respect preserved the integrity of such an important song.
For me, the temptation to play around with the track was irresistible. However, I did not want to add layers of mixed tracks just for the heck of it. It is Vandemataram for gods sake! I think I have finally figured out the ‘right sound’ for mixing Vandemataram.
I present my version of the great instrumental track from Rahman’s Album. Please consider my humble presentation of Vandemataram – Revival. I call it my Krafted Konscious Mix. Lead your ears, here and you may download the track if you choose too. If you like Karunesh, Morning Raga or fusion music, you will love this.

ok here are my thoughts. with what i have noted you for with your mixes and stuff, this is certainly very very impressive. You have NOT and i repeat NOT taken too much liberties with the great song. For a track like Vandemataram you have added just the right kind of beats and rhythm to make it an interest work of art. It is perfect lounge in a very respectful way. In fact its awesome. Though i dont know how you look like and what you do for a living, i know that you are one hell of an intelligent mixer/producer. Some of your other mixes are truly remarkable especially that mis that you made of Yuva’s khudahafiz was a class act and i knew you are a very carefull guy when it comes to the original tracks. you have a long way to go man…keep this goin. And this vandemataram is superb in your attempt. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Excellent Mix. Keep up your good work.
this is awesome!!!! loved it..
well done!! =)
Excellent job…u Rock
I loved ur other stuff, but in this case I kinda feel that beats are too heavy and dont quite blend in that well ’cause in some parts the beats are drowning out the vocals.
Man !! One thing I must say….you've destroyed a masterpiece singlehandedly. While Rehaman made a nice song sound phenomenal, you screwed it with the drums. They do not match the pace of the song initially but with the Sax, they do stay in line. You're way off, Man !! Better luck next time.
