Well actually not. But for those who have been to Rahman concerts or watched them atleast, you would notice that he has started his shows by either Rangeela’s – Spirit of Rangeela or Jaage Hai. Few concerts he has begun with a mix of Mangal Pandey’s background score and then appeared on stage with Jage Hai from GURU ost. All of them superb as beginning tracks.
I just stretched my imagination and well..imagined how it would sound if he starts with theme music of the movie Kisna, for which he was the primary composer. [click to continue...]

I know most of you out there who follow Rahman have not forgotten the soulful melody of the title track of En Swasa Katre ( My Life’s breath : Tamil). This track is very intense in its melody elements and extremely smooth in arrangement. No percussions, just the minimum needed for that ambient mood with great lyrics. It takes quite an effort to judge what to remove from a track for that extra effect! and It helps to rewind occasionally and check on those tracks that he did about 8 to 9 years ago to note how ahead of time some of his compositions were. Its been quite a while since i posted a non-stop set. Earlier towards the end of last year i posted a non-stop mix set called ‘Journey of Mind Vol 1” which was a mix of all popular dance tracks in the club circuit. Lot of them out there liked it and some fellow DJs have used portions of it extensively in their playlists. I tried a non-stop mix just to test my ability to pull of something that tough because normally such mixes are made in one take. It becomes quite painful to mix them using conventional softwares especially since the track length is over 40 mins and BPMs vary from track to track. [click to continue...]
