Cradle India has a simple purpose of creating the right environment for under privileged children in their very initial stages of growth. By this we mean the first 5 years where a child needs the right psychological support and love which in our observation is deficient in the poorer sections of the society. The lower income group communities in India particularly those in the disorganized sector usually live a hand-to-mouth existence leaving very little time or resources to ensure proper environment of growth for their children.

For instance, a young mother in her 20s who works in a local grocery store has no support system with her to take care of her children. Her children are usually with her during work hours and she looks after them only during meals. This lack of attention to her children creates a long term psychological problem wherein the children are unable to adjust to the competitive environment which exists outside the confines of their homes. Such children usually dropout of primary schools and take-up odd jobs, thus contributing to an overwhelming problem of child labor.

According to the statistics put forth by C.R.Y, less than half the number of children in India between the age group of 6 to 15 go to school. And on top of it, about 1% of those who enroll in first grade reach the 8th grade. Combine this statistic with the fact that 30% of Indian population is aged below 14 years, we begin to see a big problem.

While improvement of school infrastructure is being taken by the Indian government in a big way, very little is being done to ensure that children with the right mindset join such schools and graduate. We wish to make a difference in this niche segment. We want to ensure children are well conditioned to enter a schooling environment; they should be mentally sound and physically healthy while they embark on education and personal development endeavors. Irrespective of the economic background they come from.

Early conditioning of children by providing them with right day care environment would significantly contribute towards creating a good ‘feeder group’ to primary schools wherein the children can grow up along with their peers and learn the nuances of social wellbeing. This important virtue would greatly assist in their subsequent interactions with students, teachers and community in general.

The Mission

Our mission is to provide comprehensive care and support, including basic necessities, hygiene, and recreation, and a healthy environment that enables normal psychological, physical and cognitive development, to underprivileged children in urban areas in India, between the age group of 6 months to 5 years, irrespective of caste, creed, gender and religious bias
