I have been writing back to some of you saying i can’t do that. I can’t pick up a song and sit to add beats . It is very easy to make a dance hall track. However, if you notice there are very few non-dance tracks which have been mixed well to give them an attractive makeover. I select tracks to mix as accidents. The trick is simple, keep a good mental note of all great tracks that you listen often and wait for an idea to popout.

Like it happened few days ago when I saw the movie Zubeida on TV. Rahman had given his best for that film only to be ruined by Shyam Benegal ( I think Rahman should never work for Shyam Benegal and Subhash Ghai, because their treatment is horrible. But this is a different arguement). In this film, the track Mehendi Hai Rachnewali talks about a wedding and some events that happen during that time. It is very different because, typically (north) Indian wedding songs have rhythms based on Dholak and other percussion instruments. However, Rahman had used a cool synth groove with nice and easy pianos as interludes. Ofcourse, there is dholak but it comes quite late and does not makeup the foundation.

I did my bit here! Took of some portions of the track and create sort of a short edit version with a cool hip-hop beat that does not encroach into the track. Some of you have liked this style and i guess it sounds good too. Its funky!
